Adaptation Futures 2018, the fifth in the Adaptation Futures international conference series on global adaptation, was recently held in Cape Town from 18-21 June 2018 (https://adaptationfutures2018.capetown/). The EU stand at the conference highlighted H2020 projects on climate resilience like RESIN (www.resin-cities.eu) and BRIGAID (https://brigaid.eu/) as well as projects focusing on nature based solutions like NAIAD (http://naiad2020.eu) and PHUSICOS (http://phusicos.eu). Dr. Wei Liu from IIASA (http://www.iiasa.ac.at) gave a pitch on the PHUSICOS activities. Reflecting on the conference, Dr. Liu commented “AF2018 was a fantastic event for connecting efforts and projects related to nature based solutions.”
Relevant H2020 project meetings
The PHUSICOS Project Manager, Bjørn Kalsnes from NGI, participated at the Horizon 2020 “European Dialogue and Clustering Action Transforming cities, enhancing wellbeing: innovating with nature-based solutions.” The event took place in A Coruna 16-18 May 2018 with representatives from several H2020 nature based solution projects attending.
Furthermore, in early July, Mr. Kalsnes travelled to Bologna, Italy and participated at the kick-off meeting of the H2020 OPERANDUM project (OPEn-air laboRAtories for Nature baseD solUtions to Manage environmental risks), where he also presented PHUSICOS (photo of the consortium below). OPERANDUM, coordinated by University of Bologna, is one of three projects funded under the same call as PHUSICOS (SC5-08-2017: Large-scale demonstrators on nature-based solutions for hydro-meteorological risk reduction).
Besides PHUSICOS and OPERANDUM, the third project on NBSs for risk reduction is RECONECT (Regenarating ECOsystems with Nature-based solutions for hydro-meteorological risk rEduCTion) which will have its kick-off meeting in September 2018.
